Why LCN? Legacy People Community Property

The first and oldest producer of premium anthracite coal in the United States, the Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company was known for many years simply as "The Old Company," a reflection of its pre-eminent position in the mining industry.

The product it mined was known as "Lehigh Coal," descriptive of the finest anthracite in the world.

"Navigation" in the company's name derives from its pioneering role in engineering and building canals to carry anthracite from the Coal Region to major metropolitan cities in the 1800s.

From these familiarities came a "mark" with the words "Old Company's Lehigh" lettered within a blue and red bulls-eye on the coal-carrying arks (barges) so they would be easily recognizable by the men who tended the canals.

Today's Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company retains its legacy and solid reputation for quality while exploring anthracite's role as an invaluable resource for use in the 21st Century, a heritage and a vision that is reflected in its modernized logo.

Looking forward, LCN continues to mine anthracite for use throughout the world in domestic and industrial applications, including its emergence as a "Next Gen" fuel for co-generation and liquefication.

Today, the company stands on the shoulders of its founders and caretakers who have mined these rich and ample deposits in the heart of the Coal Region while incorporating modern processing, production and testing facilities with the goal of continuing to deliver an outstanding product.
